Project Overview
In 2017, AX GREENHOUSE successfully delivered a commercial cannabis cultivation greenhouse project in Colorado, USA—one of the most demanding regions for controlled-environment agriculture due to its high altitude and complex climate conditions. The project consists of two multi-span gable roof PC greenhouses, each measuring 32m × 45m, with a total height of 6.9m and a side height of 4.63m.
From initial concept design to manufacturing and containerized delivery, AX GREENHOUSE provided a complete one-stop solution, fully tailored to both the local climate and the strict environmental requirements of cannabis cultivation.
Adapting to Colorado’s Climate Challenges,Meeting the Precise Needs of Cannabis Cultivation
Colorado’s climate presents several challenges for greenhouse operations, including large day-night temperature fluctuations, cold winters with snow loads, strong UV radiation due to high altitude, and frequent winds. These conditions require a greenhouse structure that is not only strong and durable, but also highly efficient in insulation and environmental control.
To address these factors, AX GREENHOUSE designed a system that ensures structural stability under snow and wind loads, while maintaining a stable internal growing environment throughout the year.
Cannabis cultivation demands strict environmental control, especially for light cycles, temperature, and humidity. One of the most critical requirements is the ability to achieve complete blackout conditions during flowering stages, which directly impacts yield and crop quality.
Understanding these requirements, AX GREENHOUSE engineered a solution integrating full light deprivation, automated climate control, and efficient cultivation systems, ensuring optimal plant growth and operational efficiency.
Customized Greenhouse Structure & Materials
The greenhouse structure is built with hot-dip galvanized steel pipes, providing excellent corrosion resistance and the strength needed to withstand harsh weather conditions.
For covering materials, the greenhouse utilizes triple-layer 16mm polycarbonate (PC) panels, combined with aluminum profile fixing systems. This configuration offers superior thermal insulation, high impact resistance against snow and hail, and excellent light transmission—making it ideal for both cold climates and high-value crop production.
Integrated Environmental Control Systems
To achieve precise indoor climate management, the greenhouse is equipped with a comprehensive set of systems. A 100% blackout system ensures complete light control for cannabis flowering cycles, while a 55% internal shading system helps regulate light intensity and reduce heat buildup.
The climate is further stabilized through a combination of fan and pad cooling systems, roof ventilation, and forced air circulation, allowing efficient temperature and humidity control across seasons. All systems are connected through an automated control system.
High-Efficiency Cultivation System
Inside the greenhouse, AX GREENHOUSE implemented advanced cultivation solutions to maximize productivity. Rolling benches improve space utilization and workflow efficiency, while a drip irrigation system ensures precise delivery of water and nutrients. Additionally, a bench heating system maintains optimal root-zone temperatures, promoting faster germination and healthier plant development—especially critical in colder periods.
The Colorado Cannabis Greenhouse Project stands as a prime example of AX GREENHOUSE’s expertise in constructing facilities for high-standard commercial crop cultivation. By integrating a multi-layer polycarbonate (PC) covering structure, a 100% blackout system, and an intelligent control system, the project successfully addresses both local climatic challenges and the specific growth requirements of the crops.
This project not only ensures efficient and stable cultivation but also serves as a testament to AX GREENHOUSE’s capabilities in design, manufacturing, and global project delivery within the field of high-end cultivation greenhouses.
